How to review RZ evidence

Which document answers your question?

A safety leader can begin with a clear benefit, understand the design logic, inspect the supporting method and documents, then take the next responsible step.

Official term: Module B

EU product examination

A notified body examines the technical design and a representative product, then issues the applicable EU type examination certificate. Check that the certificate covers the exact model you are considering.

Official term: Module D

Production quality assurance

A notified body monitors the quality system used to keep production consistent with the approved type. It does not replace the product examination certificate or test report.

NIOSH status

United States approval path

RZ Pro 99 is a product in development and is not yet NIOSH approved. It is not currently offered for sale or use as a certified N99 respirator. European certification does not establish United States approval.

Independent research library

Understand the science behind the questions.

These sources add valuable context about particle size, moisture, and lifecycle impact. They remain separate from RZ product evidence because none of these studies tested the current RZ products.

Filtration science

Why 0.1 and 0.3 micron numbers need context

NIOSH explains that filters do not act like simple screens. Certification testing challenges filtration media near difficult particle sizes and under conservative conditions. This research explains the mechanism but does not replace an RZ product report.

Moisture under moderate conditions

Four hour simulated wear study

A NIOSH affiliated study found small breathing resistance changes from exhaled moisture under moderate laboratory conditions. The result applies to the tested respirators and conditions, not automatically to every product or workplace.

Moisture under severe conditions

Heat, heavy work, protective clothing, and sweat

A separate study found serious water saturation effects during hot, physically demanding work in whole body protective clothing. It demonstrates why the use environment matters, but it did not test an RZ product.

Lifecycle research

Reusable and single use mask impacts

A United Nations Environment Programme review found that reuse count, material, washing, production, transport, and disposal can change the environmental result. An RZ specific environmental claim would still require RZ specific lifecycle evidence.

Understand the result

What does a filtration number actually tell you?

Don’t judge a mask by a filtration percentage alone. These three questions help you understand what the result means.

Which mask and filter were tested?

Results apply to the specific mask and filter combination tested. They do not automatically apply to every product in the same family.

How was it tested?

Different test conditions can produce different results. Check that products were tested in comparable ways before comparing their percentages.

What does it mean for your use?

A test result alone does not establish approval or suitability for your situation. Check the exact product’s current approval, intended use, and fit requirements.
