Frequently asked questions
What are the different types of RZ Masks and when should I use each?
RZ offers five main mask types:
M1: Best for cold to mild weather and lower-intensity activities.
M2: Ideal for mild to warm weather and higher-intensity activities.
M2.5: Recommended for long periods of use and increased mobility.
RZM3: Designed for all conditions, offering the highest level of comfort and versatility of three strap configurations.
RZ Pro Mask: Engineered to stringent EU FFP standards for professional & industrial occupational safety.
Choose the mask based on your activity level, environmental conditions, and desired level of protection.
What's the difference between filters?
RZ Mask offers a range of filters tailored to specific mask models and protection needs. While all our filters are designed for high performance, their distinctions lie in their breathability, certification, and specific applications.
For our Classic RZ Mask models (M1, M2, M2N, M2.5), the standard F1 Active Carbon Filter provides excellent protection. However, we also offer an optional F3 Filter upgrade which delivers up to 50% enhanced breathability compared to the F1, making it ideal for more intense activities.
The RZM3 Mask comes standard with this same F3 Filter, ensuring its enhanced breathability out of the box. Critically, both the F1 and F3 filters are rigorously tested to provide 99.9% filtration efficiency down to 0.1 micron, effectively protecting against common airborne particulates.
Our RZ Pro Mask series (FFP2 and FFP3) features filters that are FFP certified, meaning they meet stringent European Union (EU) regulatory standards for respiratory protective devices.
The FFP2 Filter provides 94% filtration efficiency down to 0.3 micron.
The FFP3 Filter offers a higher level of protection, with 99% filtration efficiency down to 0.3 micron.
For both FFP2 and FFP3 options, we offer variants with active carbon for odor reduction and without, for a slightly more economical, particulate-only filtration solution.
Why do certified FFP filters have different filtration efficiencies than non-certified masks?
The difference in reported filtration efficiencies between our FFP Certified filters and our non-certified filters (F1/F3) comes down to different testing standards and methodologies used in different regions, not a difference in the quality or capability of the mask itself.
Our Classic and RZM3 masks are tested by Nelson Laboratories in the USA using their rigorous particulate filtration efficiency (PFE) protocols, which certify our F1 and F3 filters to 99.9% filtration down to 0.1 micron. These are industry-leading tests for performance.
Conversely, our RZ Pro Mask series with FFP certification (FFP2 and FFP3) is tested and certified according to the stringent European Union (EU) standards (EN 149). These FFP tests are incredibly comprehensive, evaluating not just filtration efficiency, but also factors like breathing resistance, clogging resistance, and crucial total inward leakage (TIL)—how well the mask seals to the face during movement. This holistic assessment is very difficult to pass.
Due to the specific parameters and requirements of the EU FFP standard:
FFP2 filters are certified to achieve at least 94% filtration down to 0.3 micron.
FFP3 filters are certified to achieve at least 99% filtration down to 0.3 micron.
Therefore, while the percentages might appear different, they represent compliance with distinct, robust, and globally recognized regulatory benchmarks. Both sets of tests ensure high levels of protection, but through different measurement criteria and certification frameworks.
What filters does my RZ Masks use?
The filter type your RZ Mask uses depends on the specific mask model. Our Classic RZ Mask models (M1, M2, M2N, M2.5) come standard with our F1 Active Carbon Filter, engineered for 99.9% filtration down to 0.1 micron. The RZM3 Mask utilizes the advanced RZM3 F3 Filter, also incorporating active carbon for exceptional breathability and filtration. For our professional-grade RZ Pro Mask series, each model is equipped with FFP Certified Filters (FFP2 or FFP3), which also contain active carbon to ensure comprehensive protection against various airborne contaminants. Rest assured, every RZ Mask filter features active carbon to enhance purification and provide reliable performance.
How often should RZ Mask filters be replaced?
The life expectancy of your RZ Filter depends on many variables, such as; particulate exposure density, particulate exposure duration, and user breathing rate. Below are our general guidelines:
20-30 hours of continuous use in heavy dust exposure to things such as; grain bins, off-roading, construction/demolition, etc.
30-40 hours of continuous use in light dust exposure to things such as; grain bins, off-roading, construction/demolition, etc.
50-60 hours of continuous use when protecting against allergens, pollutants, odors, etc.
Are RZ Masks reusable?
Yes, RZ Masks are reusable. The masks themselves are durable and can be washed, but the filters must be replaced regularly.
What sets the RZM3 Mask apart from other RZ Mask models?
The RZM3 Mask has changeable head strap configurations and is designed for all conditions, providing the highest level of protection and comfort. It features over 15 US & international patents and offers advanced filtration technology, a more robust design, and additional features for enhanced breathability and fit. The RZM3 is ideal for professionals working in hazardous environments or individuals seeking the ultimate in respiratory protection.
What size mask should I wear?
STEP 1
Measure from the bridge of your nose to the tip of your chin. It may be helpful to have a friend assist you.
Measuring from the height of the bridge of your nose (usually just below your eye line) down to the tip of the chin, and do not measure past the tip of your chin.
STEP 2
Match your measurement with the given sizes below to find the correct sizing for you. We offer 3 different sizes of masks Medium, Large, and X-Large.
Medium 3.5"-4"
Large 4"-4.5"
X-Large 4.5"+
If your measurements lie in-between sizes, we recommend using your weight as a secondary reference.
Medium up to 140 lbs
Large 140 lbs - 200 lbs
Extra Large 200 lbs and up
